ENET vs ICOM for complete flashing/programming G series cars with ISTA (and ESYS)
IIRC the ISTA programming with ENET is made possible with Sedoy's patch (to his ISTA standalone, iLean), otherwise ICOM is required.
My question to those that have done programming with ENET and ICOM, is programming with ~$20 ENET cable is "just as" reliable/stable as programming the whole car's control units using ~$500 ICOM NEXT A? Assuming power supply is a "good" unit and laptop/ethernet connection/cabling is "solid". If programming with ENET runs into "glitch", can you go back and redo the entire programming, or reflash certain control unit(s)? I also have older E series cars (e39 and e46) which use KDCAN, and IIRC programming those cars do require/recommend use of ICOM with ISTA/P, mainly for stability of flashing these cars. Thanks! |

Never mind, indeed i will need to get ICOM, maybe not necessary for G cars but certainly for E cars programming.

RE: ENET vs ICOM for complete flashing/programming G series cars with ISTA (and ESYS)
If you are going to work on these cars with any regularity, the ICOM (Genuine) is a good investment. The cost of replacing even a single module due to a failure would negate any perceived savings by going with a cheap solution. ETH is great for coding but I certainly would not trust it for programming a G series.
Thanks + reputation if I helped you.

RE: ENET vs ICOM for complete flashing/programming G series cars with ISTA (and ESYS)
For G, I've used ENET cable with E-SYS and ISTA+, fully I-Level upgrade twice, no flashing problem met(other known problem solved). So if only work with new car, ENET cable is enough.

Thanks.
Also my current iLean license do require using ICOM, i.e. ENET patching is not available. |

RE: ENET vs ICOM for complete flashing/programming G series cars with ISTA (and ESYS)
i use ENET for flashing all the time on G series, new FLM, steering racks etc, for that i use ESYS because i can individually flash without istep update whole car and it works perfect for me so far

RE: ENET vs ICOM for complete flashing/programming G series cars with ISTA (and ESYS)
I flashed an F series this week over ENET , last updated 4 years ago.
No issues, all ecus done in under 40 minutes. ICOM is really just ENET anyway, plus voltage readings |
