ZTAudi  Bypass pyrofuse 48V battery
Hello,

We have a crashed Audi A3 8Y from 2022 with deployed airbags. This means that the pyro fuse needs to be replaced. Problem is that with the 48V battery, the pyro is inside it and not replacable.

Before starting to replace things, we want to start the car. Is the 48V battery necesarry to start the car? Or is there a way to bypass the 48V system to start the car.

Also I am wondering if opening the battery will make it possible to replace the pyro fuse. Has to be safe obviously to not get electrocuted.

Any help on this topic is appreciated!

RE: Bypass pyrofuse 48V battery
Mild Hybrid vehicles use the 48V system as a recuperation system. The alternator/starter charge the 48V bettery which charge the 12V battery. The alternator start the engine using the 48V system when the conditions are right. When they are not, the 12V battery start the engine using the good old starter. When the 48V fuse is gone, charging the 12V battery while driving is not possible. You'll have to charge it manually with an exterior charger. Have in mind though that a possible crush shutdown signal may block you from starting the engine regardless the 12V battery SoC. By the way, it's called Mild Hybrid for a reason. 48V are not considered lethal like the 266V of the other Hybrids. You can get a little shock however.

If my post was helpfull, Thanks and Rep would be appreciated.

The problem has been fixed. And for anyone in the same situation this is what needs to be done:

First remove the crash shutdown from the battery. After that the car should start without a problem, however the battery will not charge. With Odis, you need to go to the battery module and restart the 48V, it is in de guided function section. And after that go to the DC/DC converter module, within guided functions again, choose close charging connector. You will hear a loud click during the process. This means the charging has been closed and the 48V battery will start to charge again.

Hope this helps
