LMazda  Mazda 5 only starts with Camshaft sensor Disconnected
Good morning CT,

I own a 2007 Mazda 5 143hp diesel with RF7J engine.
The car did a 300 km trip without a issue and after cycling the ignition - in the next morning - the engine would crank but no start.

I connected Forscan to check DTC's and had P0016 + P0342 (P0016 Crankshaft/Camshaft Position Correlation & P0342 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Low).

In the plug for the camshaft i checked (ign on): 5V (good), GND and the other wire must be signal.
Cleaned the crankshaft sensor as well, even fitted an aftermarket sensor then returned it as there was no change.

Since there was voltage and ground present on camshaft plug, I ordered a new camshaft sensor from Mazda Dealer. 2 days later, connected it and still the same issue: crank, no start. Same DTC's are present.

The wiring from the sensor to the ECU has continuity on all 3 wires and same resistance: 0,1 ohms on all 3 wires

Engine is correctly timed. New battery aswell.

I even checked all the teeth on flywheel to make sure none of them were missing/chipped.

What else can I check for?

For now, does anyone have the Engine Wiring Diagram for a 2007 Mazda 5 (CR19) with Diesel Engine (codename RF7J)?

The engine is used in Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 from the same year.
Thank you

You don't have CKP and CMP synchronization. Check again. Check attachment of the wheels to the shaft.

How much do you have to crank the engine to get the Crank correlation fault back. ?
Sure sounds like the cam is out of time.
[I do know that you wrote that it's timed correctly]  Worth checking that, to be 100% ! Including cam lobe position!
Cam trigger wheel, can they turn some ?

After clearing all DTCs, like 3 10sec cranks, but i only get P0342.
The P0016 now only is set when I remove the camshaft sensor plug and crank the engine.

Camshaft is definitely in time with the crankshaft. I checked the timing using the 3 marks. Lobes on camshaft are poiting correctly when in TDC.

What do you mean " Cam trigger wheel, can they turn some ? " ? Are you talking about the vaccum pump gear where the tdc sensor does the reading?

YOU'RE SURE THE TIMING BELT IS READY.

So to sum up: The brand new camshaft sensor from Mazda was faulty and causing the no-start issue.
I ordered a second hand camshaft sensor (same part number) and the engine cranked right away.

Thank you to those who tried to help out.
