BMW Coding
Apologies if wrong section

does anyone have any light to shed on coding of BMW lights?

ie converting a car from 'pre LCI' to LCI

from what i can see the software can be obtained for $5 and a cable off amazon (ethernet to obd)

RE: BMW Coding
Watch out for which cable you use. Around 2007 there was a diagnostic switch, before it is K-line (pins 7 and 8 wired together), after then is DCAN and pins 7 and 8 need to be separate. Some sellers sell cable for DCAN with an adapter for Kline. This one is the best way to go, because you can code cars before and after this point and you do not need to use 2 cables or switch the protocol in the software or driver.

For coding, take a look at NCS expert and use NCS Dummy to learn which keywords do what. Keep in mind that some of the values work together, so sometimes you need to find the combination of values.

For eg. E60 pre-LCI and post-LCI you'd better use a newer light control module, but it still is doable. You just need to find the check control values to be switched off. Cons are, that if the bulb goes out, you do not know about it.

RE: BMW Coding
If you know about BMW FA (vehicle order) then you can try following, if you don't just forget about is smile :
You must know the correct symbol in FA which change the ECU from non LCI to LCI.
After you change the FA (in both CAS and in LM), you must encode all car ECUs.
