The way I see is you need to find a locksmith to read info from your new key, the key should have a VIN written on the memory and you can check that way if the key was correct for your car.

Also, in your case I would try to diagnose BCM and check if the VIN matches the car.

If you diagnose with ISTA it will automatically turn on ignition if that is what you need to complete the procedure for new key.

This is an example of info that should be on your key

Summary of information extracted from the key

HitagPro key type

Serial No: 53F962D2
VIN Current : WBACV01030XXXXXXX
Color Code: 0416
Upholstery Code: VATQ
Odometer: 134422 km
Last Drive: 10/02/2024 21:25
Fuel level: 16
Battery Voltage: 12.615
Outside temperature: 10.00
Coolant temperature: 84
ship init: S18A -18-07-540
ship curr: S18A -21-03-550
ship last: S18A -21-07-585
Initial location: 1000
Initial station: SC09
VIN Initial: WBACV01030XXXXXXX
First Registration: 24 / 09 / 2018
Key Position: 1
Display: YES
Frequency: Frequency 434 MHz
Key Creation Date: 35 / 08 / 8216

When I returned the key to the dealer they said that they cannot read it and it needs to be activated in the car first, then it could be read. I think they are talking bullshit because they dont want to take responsibility.

I would suggest finding a private locksmith in your area with the capability to read the key and make other checks that i listed above, I also would check if key positions on BCM are disabled

(11-02-2024, 11:19 AM)btvaleks Wrote:  Hello, I have purchased a 2019 BMW X5 that has no keys at all. Went to the dealer and ordered a key by VIN, but the key does not work, the car doesnt recognise it. Also the metal part doesn’t fit the locks and when I went to the dealer to read the key in order to check if the VIN matches they couldn’t read it on their machine.

In the end they told me to have a good day and that the problem was not from them, but the car needed to have the key activated and paired and that required having another already working key. Is this true ? I have previously purchased a key for a 2018 G30 and it worked without any problems or pairing. Is there a difference in the X5 ? Also if this is true what can you guys suggest that I can do in order to fix my problem ?

In my opinion the key was mistaken (even though all documents with it said that it was correct), because the metal key part does not fit, and the dealer wants to clear their hands and not refund me. Should I order a new key and risk it not working and should it just work for this car, or it really needs some pairing process ?

1. The key won't fitted to lock = wrong VIN and never enable to start or turn on.
2. Did you check the VIN matched with the key ordered?
3. If the dealer ordered wrong VIN and they have to reorder free of charge.

This is happening to me for my X3.

RE: BMW X5 G05 all keys lost
I have no experience with G05, but on E and F series the VIN gets written to the key by the car. On CAS, if you change VIN the VIN in the key is even updated automagically.
Reading a new key doesn't reveal a VIN. Again, don't know if G-series is different?

RE: BMW X5 G05 all keys lost
By the way, at the local wholesaler where I order the keys, they offered me keys for the Gxx series (bdc2, bdc3). When I said that it is not possible to add keys to these cars, the salesman replied that there are several people who buy these keys and add them to the car. Is it bullshit or are there actually people who can already do this?

RE: BMW X5 G05 all keys lost
So guys, a local locksmith verified that the key was for the car. He later came and connected ista, he didn’t tell me what he did, but he started the car and made it work only using ista. My best guess is that adding new keys was blocked by ista, because I saw a service function called Enable/Disable Key Initialisation. The blade is not cut for the car though, the dealer fucked up there, but the key was indeed for the car.
