Dear members,

an engine swap was performed from 2006 E60 535dA into 2006 E61 530dA.

DDE and CAS are from the donor (E60). Obviously the engine starts yet the gear fails to engage from P.

What's your take as the following steps to get everything into working order?

Simply change VIN for DDE and CAS?

Or donor VIN for EGS, and then synchronise with CAS?

Anything else to consider? What about the vehicle type code?

BMW Standard Tools, ISTA/P and ISTA+ are available for coding and programming.

The gearbox is 6hp28 from the donor?
You have got 272hp with old selector or 286hp with joystick?

The gearbox is with the old lever selector and was not swapped from the 535d.

AFAIK there is a different lock for gear selector on e60 models with old key and the slot in key.

I have seen one situation when a gearbox from the e60 with new key was put in e60 with old key and lock for gear selector was not releasing, if you release manually for P everything else was working properly.

Both vehicles are with start button & key fob.

Wondering about the coding required for DDE (from donor), CAS (from donor) and EGS (original) to get everything set up?

So, why don't You just put VIN from CAS, DDE to EGS and sed whar happens.
Maybe there is this simple immobilizer.

I don't think this will solve your problem.
CAS and DDE do not care what VIN in EGS has. I have seen many swapped gearboxes with the old VIN working without issue. Something else is wrong.
Could it be that the wire that releases the lever was forgotten during installation?

Or maybe just try to put CAS, DME , EGS and JBB to same I-Level.

Hi, as I know you need to set 3 ecus with the same ISN : DDE, CAS and EGS. If you swapped DDE and CAS and leave "old" EGS it will NOT work. You need to reset EGS ISN and than code it to the car. VIN is not so important only ISN (it is the immo code).
