Tuning for E83 N47 177hp
Dear all,

Is anyone having some experience with bmw cars tuning and wants to share?
Lately I am curious about this topic, bought ca kess v2 chinese clone (red motherboard) if that matters.
I red the map, save it and opened in some old version of ECM Titanium.
I have tried to understand the principle of modifying maps without too much success because there is not much documentation available.
For start i will try to buy a map OEM with EGR off - intention is to leave existent new EGR in place but too see how that affects the regenerations intervals on the DPF.
Then i will be curious about stage1 - just to see how if the filing to drive it is different.
Good part about tuning i think is that every time you can go back to the OEM map if something is not ok.
Two things not clear at the moment - is ECU safe to be written with kess v2 chinese version? EDC17C02 i understood is the type and the second - will BMW ista updates - overwrite the modified maps back to original?
To be well understood - is not about to save some money; is more about understanding and learning something about which i am curious.

Thank you!

Can you elaborate your theory on how EGR will affect regeneration intervals?

Hi,
With egr off - more less exhaust gas will go on the intake side - i have cleaned the intake manifold at 120k km and was with extrem black dirt inside. my expectation is that with egr off all that dirt will go with the rest of exhaust gases through DPF - so more dirt on the dpf.
And from here that once more dirt will flow through DPF - regenerations will be with shorten intervals than usual.
But as said - it is just a theory.

Thanks

I see your rationale yet with the usage of EGR, particulate emissions are higher and more soot is formed during combustion and it remains un-oxidized and eventually appears in the exhaust. The rise in smoke (soot) level of engine exhaust due to EGR affects the engine performance in various ways. Increased soot level causes considerable increase in the carbon deposits and wear of the various vital engine parts such as cylinder liner, piston rings, valve train and bearings. Wear of the materials also increase due to chemical reactions taking place on the surface (adsorption, corrosion) or due to abrasion of material or rupture of anti-wear film by soot. The application of EGR also adversely affects the lubricating oil quality and engine durability by the effect of soot interacting with oil additives and thereby reducing its anti-wear properties possibly by abrasive wear mechanism resulting in increased engine wear due to EGR.

Interesting. So, on one hand to disable EGR will help but on the other hand will have negative impact.
Thank you.

EGR was designed to slowly kill your engine and particulate filter. All of my customers after rebuild engines has removed EGR and engine is runing perfect and DPF becomes polluted much slower.

Partly true.
First generation DPF csrs had a lot of problems with DPF. Part of the problem were s/w related = too strickt burn conditions.
From roughly 2007 I have noticed no problem in any car, IF it is not DDE manipulated.
Over 300tkm, all fine.
