E60 DSC unit, Cruise+brake vs ACC2 stop and go
I have been told that the DSC units are not interchangeable and going from Cruise+brake on the LCI cars to ACC2 stop and go needs a different control unit+valve body.
Is there really a difference as there is only 1 ZB for both, same details pop up on the control tree info page as a mates in the process of doing this retrofit and we have compared my cruise+brake with his ACC2 cruise module. Is it something in the valve block itself? Only reason I'm asking is I'm in the process of doing the same retrofit but have to wait for parts to arrive before I can commission the car, I'd thought just swapping the DSC control unit would be enough but as that comes back the same except for coding I'm starting to question if I need touch the DSC at all apart from coding? I do have a complete valve block and DSC module in the retrofit kit if needed, but would like any feedback if possible? I get this on pre LCI as it had no braking cruise so that obviously had to have a new DSC unit to work, but ACC2? Thanks. |

Having done this retrofit on LCI car I can attest the hydro unit differs from the regular unit with braking function only.

Reality struck yesterday after seeing a different number on the valve block, oh well, messy way it is then Out of interest, how did you calibrate the sensor? |

RE: E60 DSC unit, Cruise+brake vs ACC2 stop and go
Replacing the hydro unit is roughly a 30 min job and the fluid will not be flooded everywhere. Just get some rags to absorb the excess.
I was (mentally) prepared to calibrate the sensor, however not necessary as it worked right away. I only adjusted the housing screws accordigly. As a note, the system will generate a fault code for failed seat occupancy sensor unless a true sensor is installed on the driver's side. I left the sensor uninstalled as it will neither affect functionality nor throw any warnings on the cluster or info display, and merely for the fact the requirement for the driver's occupancy sensor is only for situations of rapid escape by the driver when the Start&Stop system would otherwise allow vehicle movement after brief stop. The evaluation time is about 2-3 seconds, but basically would allow unoccupied vehicle movement. Better safe than sorry, thus I do not advocate anyone to leave the sensor uninstalled for safety reasons. Click Thanks and Reputationif this post helped you.

Oh, I thought the system wouldn't work without the drivers occupancy sensor...
