Hi, I believe answer to that is YES. ECU should be completely re flashed (when appropriate checkbox selected in ISTA P.

Just use the update function of winkfp!

you dont read dde7.1 with tuningprotection via bdm. its jtag plus boot mode.

Reflashing you DDE/DME by ISTA-P or WINKFP will 100% remove the old tuning file and replace it by OEM sw.

I'm not sure about the E series, but for new F-series the only way ISTA can be used to wipe over a flash tune is when connected to the ISIS network. So only one who can overwrite a flash tune a BMW dealer connected to the BMW Network.

For F20 and F30, both ISTA/P and E-sys can "restore" the benchflash tuning, just tried on last week.

So have I without success. Wasn't trying to remove the tuning but I was upgrading firmware and coding the DME module.

Upgrading or select checkbox program to the ECU?

Upgrading istep levels. Full reprogramming of ECU and then encoding of the new firmware using ISTA.

Hello!

When you update a DME/DDE you will wipe out the tuning. But therefore it's necessary to flash the hole ECU, not only a part of it (only new CAFD for example). If you are using E-Sys you have to manipulate the SVT_IST (for Bootloader, CAFD and SWFL). In that acse you will get a clean DME/DDE (tried it several times with success).
