Change VIN in ECU with WinKFP possible? - getaibose - 05-12-2016

Hi all

I have the following ECU with me from X1 E84 Diesel

Bosch nr: 0281016110
BMW nr: 8506438

Can I change VIN number of this ECU with WinKFP?

This ECU is from a donor car (which is manual transmission) - I want to install it into an X1 with auto transmission. I need to change VIN before programming / coding with ISTA P - so would it be possible with WinKFP? Thanks

Cheers

Yes, if you flash the DME with WinKFP it will change the VIN to the one you type. If not, Tool32 can do it.

However depending on DME, you may not be able to use a second hand DME to another car because of ISN issues.

You may also need to code it after flashing.

Yes you can change the VIN with Winkfp,
you also need to change to a correct ZUSB (automatic transmission)

If you use a second hand ECU you also need to align the ISN from the used ECU with your CAS,
This can't be done with the BMW tools (INPA,NCS,ISTA) etc..

With tool 32 you must enter 18

What is the 18
Before or behind the vin

It's the Checkdigit and Number 18 of your Vin ( Last digit )

Vin change only looks good but ISN must be the same and that's not possible with standart Tools.
ISN doesn't match Car won't start

Which program can align ISN with cas?

Just programming on the table. You Can not change ISN via OBD

Dear getaibose,
I wonder you have resolved your problems yet?
But in my knowledge there are some ways to reuse the second hand DME
1st/ making use of tool32 to change vin, and then pass the configuration to DME ( I'm not sure becase of not trying doing this way) but i have found some information on M3 BMW
2st/ utilizing WINKFP to change VIN, and then pass FA from CAS to DME
3st/ Universal programmer will save the day look for the VIN, and blank it. HOWEVER, I have also found some comments mentioning about locking byte on BMW as of MY2008.

Ok, I forgot to post back here -- I did manage to solve it. I got the ECU, CAS and Key from donor car -- which was a manual.

I used WinKFP to flash automatic car ECU software to the donor car ecu. after that, I copied wrote VO code of the original car to the donor car CAS.

Finally after writing new VO code to CAS, I coded the CAS to default using ncsexpert again, now the car started.

The only problem is that the VIN number is now of the donor car in the ECU and CAS - and I think changing VIN of the new cas to the original car will cause problem with the Key, as the key has vin of the donor car and might not start if there is vin mismatch with cas? I am not too sure of this, BMW experts here can comment on this further
