Incircut flash of eeprom is The most safe, fast and easy way to Virginize EPROMs.
Never ever desolder them. I have virginized more than 100 clusters and never needed to remove eeprom from circuit board.
What programmer do you use?

Well I really tried getting it to work with the test clip but I couldn't get a stable connection. Eventually I desoldered the chip and reading and writing went fine.

I struggled many time with R270 using test clip to read/write the chip , I neded up desoldering as well and I stopped wasting my time trying anymore .

with hot air station , its 3 seconds to desolder the chip . 3 seconds to solder it back with out the need to use flux or to add solder paste . unless the chip is being removed several time . one time remove is fine .

maybe other tools have the ability to read/write with test clip but not R270 ( or at least the clone R270 ) .
