ZGW replacement
Received a replacement ZGW 2 high this week for the swap and found some time to install the other day. Also took a moment to run the CAN-3 high/Low lines for future headlight modules while working in the footwell area. Pictures below
Running into a new tissue with the replacement ZGW. I connected it and completed 1 or 2 general "lesen" tests in Tool32 before the connection to the module stopped and wouldn't re-establish. Power cycling the ignition, locking the car and letting it go to sleep, removing and reinstalling the ZGW, pulling the battery for an hour doesn't bring back a connection. This is confirmed on Tool32, Esys, and ISTA+. For the hack of I broke out my old K-DCAN cable to see and still nothing. With the ignition on, the windshield wipers come on as if there is no ZGW installed. Anyone have experience with this when swapping a ZGW? These replacements are fairly straightforward with the most work being flashing and VO coding with the correct Vin. Seems like this car continually has bad luck. The Part comes from a 2012 550i |

RE: ZGW replacement
Yeah, the original ZGW has ethernet / BUS issues which prompts the change. Opting for the Pre-LCI module because of the MOST connector to power CIC. I wonder if failing ethernet & BUS is a common occurrence in these modules?
Running a few more voltage tests with my multi-meter and then swapped in the original (malfunctioning) ZGW. The power in the car is good. I'm starting to believe someone shipped a broken part |
