BMW DK (Siemens Yellow Head / EDIC) WiFi

XZBMW  BMW DK (Siemens Yellow Head / EDIC) WiFi
I got a genuine GT1 with the Siemens DK1 (Yellow Head). Connection via cable is working perfect. Also switching to wireless directly in DIS works.
From the documentation and my knowledge it is possible to use WiFi on the GT1 to connect to the workshop network. Also the DK can connect to the workshop network. I think that must be a unsecured 2.4 GHz WiFi because the orignal Spectrum24 Access Points only got MAC-Filters to protect the workshop network (setup via SAM started on a GT1).

Does anyone know the SSID used for the workshop-network used in the DIS-times?
So far I didn't found anything usable in the SCO Unix on the GT1 how the WiFi-connection is established. Also the GT1 manual and the BMW network maunal doesn't loose a work on the SSID.

as far as i remember you will need A class wireless AP, because wireless card inside DK is A class

RE: BMW DK (Siemens Yellow Head / EDIC) WiFi
Thanks for this hint.
In my GT1 there is one Symbol la-3021-102-eu card. So it's not 802.11a (would be 5 GHz, 2400 MHz is printed on the card), it looks like it is 802.11. Damn slow but should be able to connect to a current network.

RE: BMW DK (Siemens Yellow Head / EDIC) WiFi
SSID used is: 101
WLAN type is IEEE 802.11 FH (Frequency Hopping) with max. data transmission rate of 1 to 2 Mbit/s.
To connect DK and GT-1 you need a Symbol Spectrum24 access point of type AP-3021.
If you have connected the DK to the GT-1, you can switch to direct wireless connection. In this mode no access point is needed. To get into this mode you need an access point.

I sourced a old Spectrum24 AP. So I'll give a try next week.

Never been in touch with any wireless system before 802.11b wink

RE: BMW DK (Siemens Yellow Head / EDIC) WiFi
You will need to hard-reset the AP which means you need to do the following:

• Power down
• Locate pins 2-3 at the serial port on back
• Short those 2 pins (paper clip is fine)
• Power the AP
• Wait approx. 2-3 minutes for the reset to take effect
• Turn AP off, remove short
• Run Hyperterminal session to reconfigure the AP (You may use web browser)
The default password to access the U.I. is Symbol (S-upper caser, ymbol-lower case)

RE: BMW DK (Siemens Yellow Head / EDIC) WiFi
Thanks for the advice. My AP is working fine already.
Mostly using wireless direct connection from GT-1 to the DK at the moment.

Next project will be printer on GT-1. I'd love to use a PDF-generator on the network wink

It can be done, GT1 prints to adobe .ps, then you open it with Adobe Reader and print.
I will try and find my notes.

But.. I retired  my DK and OPPS heads because BMW released a software bridge between ICOM and GT1.  I think its called DIS2ICOM

Yes there was a official VM from BMW of GT1 working with ICOM. But not perfect for the very old ones.

I was thinking of  setting up cups in the network and configure it as a printserver in GT1.

I'm surprised that I found this.  I wrote this little cookbook roughly 15 years ago.
I remember that the software "WinLPD" is not needed.   I would skip this part.
Do set up the printer in GT1 as noted in my cookbook.

When clicking on print in GT1, a dialog box will pop open on the host pc.
Be sure to name the file with the ".ps" extension.

Then open with Acrobat reader and archive.
