MGU Headunit swap questions

RE: MGU Headunit swap questions
Hello,

I want to warm up this topic once more…
Did you manage to swap the MGU to the one with 5th OABR and 1x CVBS Port?
Need to change a 4x OABR without CVBS to one with CVBS Port for NiVi retrofit.

How BMW react on the changed MGU if they had to do some software updates or whatever at a technical inspection or at a technical recall? As the „new“ MGU is not the original installed one and have different serial and partnumber as in the original FA, will this case ane problem or is there a way to manage this too? As normally, even if someone stole my current MGU the new one would also be without CVBS port but i am not sure if BMW looks so deeply into this partnumber difference or if they just see „MGU High installed“ to perform a regular ISTA software update.

Would be nice if someone can give more insights into this.

RE: MGU Headunit swap questions
Unit can be virginized without problem, certificates no problem too, most likely the biggest problem will be with NiVi cp removal. If u need, I can reset CP of MGU on bench, pm me

RE: MGU Headunit swap questions
do you have photo example how to identify unit that supports RSE and which does not?

It is not 100% easy to identify the right device, also not every MGU with 5 OABR (Needed for RSE) or CVBS (Needed for NiVi) Port has a GPS port. (Example: B297 11B3)
Sadly there are many different MGU High versions out there and to find the right one could be tricky.

For me the "safest" way is to VO code 6UK (nightvision) and/or 6FG (Rear Seat Entertainment) and let E-SYS to a TAL calculation.
E-SYS will tell you than which HWEL version you need and - if your mapping is new enough - which MGU model it should be (eg. Bxxx numbering)

For example for my NiVi retrofit E-SYS told me to replace my MGU High B314 (0000 5F32) with a MGU High B264 (0000 7867) to get the nightvision picture on my display.

I found also some used B264 MGUs on the market but i am still not sure if I should replace the MGU.
I still don't know how BMW / ISTA deal with a different HWEL or model number compared to the original FA.
For example is Remote Software Update still possible or what happens at a technical recall software update?
I don't even know if BMW at least take care about a changed HWEL. Maybe they just look if the HWEL has the minimum hardware requirements and a better equipped MGU always will be ok? Don't know... Some I asked say yes, some say no, but nobody proofed or tried it.

Does anyone have any experience with replacing / swaping a MGU to a different Partnumber / HWEL number?
