RE: DiagBox 8.01 Installation - Simple - 23-10-2016

Start with the activator and the cache restorer.

- Notice that the activator copies some files (stored within) to DiagBox 8 and copies other files from (your) DiagBox 7 installation. That's because some files are needed and common to every installation and others are specific to your installation and hold your profile and computer info.

- Every time you get it wrong, the cache contents get deleted, and when you replenish the 13 files, DiagBox populates the rest on starting.

The main files necessary for your changes are in C:\AWRoot sub-folders.

These files are necessary for the correct running of your DiagBox, (of course PSA can decide to change that at any stage to prevent proper running of hacked system).

C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\actialc.dll
C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\AWCore_vc80.dll
C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\AWCtxt_vc80.dll
C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\AWFInterpreter_vc80.exe
C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\fr.actia.AWF.tags.core_vc80.dll
C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\Version.ini
C:\AWRoot\dtrd\tree\Menu0000.s
C:\AWRoot\dtrd\tree\script_vcistate.s
C:\AWRoot\dtwr\cfg\config.sys

The "AWFInterpreter_vc80.exe" is important and PSA seems to updated every now and then, the three other DLLs are also related, try playing with them to find what needs to be done.

These configuration files are copied from (your) DiagBox installations to your new one, the need for a previous 7.45+ installation is that "C:\AWRoot\dtwr\cfg\config.sys" is created in installations later than 7.45 (if you check 7.02 you will find it does not exist).

C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\APPDIAG.SYS
C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\cfg.bin
C:\AWRoot\dtwr\cfg\config.sys
C:\AWRoot\dtwr\cfg\infopds.xml
C:\AWRoot\dtwr\cfg\infopvn.ini

You may need to install from the beginning 7.01 take copies of the above mentioned files then perform updates and take copies naming them relatively (like: "fr.actia.AWF.tags.core_vc80-701.dll" and "fr.actia.AWF.tags.core_vc80-757.dll" and "fr.actia.AWF.tags.core_vc80-762.dll"... etc)

Now, you may have crashes or failures due to new files inserted somewhere, you need to be able to trace them and find whether you need to eliminate them or change them. Every time this happens, check and replenish your cache folder as necessary. "C:\AWRoot\bin\fi\bndl" is also a folder of interest, what goes in here can cause crashes at startup.

This is NOT easy, it is tiiiiiiiime consuming, and I believe it would be easier to hack the profile. try intercepting the communication between DiagBox and PSA server and check what is it looking for to activate DiagBox 8 (regrettably, I don’t have a user and password).

Notice:
1- Start with DiagBox 7.xx (not v8) and try to add update-8.20 to 7.83 such that you have 7.84 (as far as I remember, I had that initially working but there was so much change that I scrapped it). Updates 8.21 (7.85) and 8.22 (7.86) will install without any change needed.

2- You will discover that PSA added more tricks in files other than the above mentioned every few updates, they also need to be found and tackled.

3- Work with a Virtual Machine and take snapshots to preserve your work, other wise the exercise will become even more tiiiiiiiiiiime consuming.

Good luck,

Simple (not really!).

Use the attached batch file to speedily kill DiagBox tasks.

First post updated again..

RE: DiagBox 8.01 Installation - Simple - 25-10-2016

Hello all,
Attached is the "C:\APP" folder for DiagBox v8.35, which houses the latest Lexia v500.74 and PP2000 v600.79. (I actually tried it on my car and it seems to be working fine. In fact I will keep it since whenever I operate DiagBox, it is Lexia that I use!!).

If you wish to try it (at your own risk and having taken all precautions):
1- Use the attached “Kill_DiagBox_Tasks.bat” to stop all DiagBox’s processes.
2- Rename your current “C:\APP” folder to “C:\APP8”
3- Extract the downloaded APP-835.7z to “C:\” so that you have “C:\APP”
4- Restart your computer and run DiagBox as usual.

Have fun!

The language is set to English, if you wish to change it, edit the DICO.TXT file in the EXE folders of LEXIA or OUTILREP (PP2000).

If you wish to revert to your original setup.
- Kill all processes again using the wicked batch file
- Rename the C:\APP folder to anything or delete it
- Rename your C:\APP8 back to C:\APP
- Restart the computer and start DiagBox.

P.S. DiagBox has been running on Firmware 4.3.4 since 7.66/8.02.

Regards, Simple.

Thanks simple , do we have to do the other updates first or can we just go from 8.19 to 8.35

No, it should work with whatever setup you have (in theory), I remember (moons ago) trying and early v8 APP folder on DiagBox v7 (I think 7.57) and it worked..

I actually tried to operate it as stand alone (without starting DiagBox) and it worked, it just requested parameters (I assume VIN and RPO). I will try to find the tool that passes these parameters; when I have time.

Thanks simple, wish I was clever enough to 've able to sort things like this

RE: DiagBox 8.01 Installation - Simple - 25-10-2016

I am sure you are clever. By the way, did you try it? and did it work?

RE: DiagBox 8.01 Installation - jpbroad1970 - 25-10-2016

I will try it tomorrow laptop is at work have downloaded though

I'm quite pc savvy I think so will try and get my head around the software but I need time which we all seem to struggle with

I have loaded the files in and diagbox opens just going to connect box to see how that goes then will test on car

well the diagbox connects ok just wait to get the car back from my good lady to test further

RE: DiagBox 8.01 Installation - jpbroad1970 - 28-10-2016

It connected to the car ok just seemed a little slow

RE: DiagBox 8.01 Installation - Simple - 28-10-2016

Interesting, I don't notice that. I am not sure, but it also seems to have a couple of more menu items..

However, if all is working fine (some one needs to test and confirm) then this is another way of upgrading without the need to hack the software!!!
