Whats the differences between them? Why would someone use a lower version?

Lower versions you can use Enet and k+dcan cable

updates & renewals

RE: ISTA-P Loaders 6.1 to 6.6 - tinkerman - 27-11-2023

Are there recent versions with support for K+DCAN* / ENET?

Is there any possibility for support in the future if not now?

I do hope adore beemerboy is still in existence... biggrin

Thanks...

P.S.
I just realized that the included Loader 6.1's folder includes the file "Einstellung bei Loader V6.1F.de" which has instructions*(in German) for enabling 6.1(with support for K+DCAN/ENET) to work with more recent ISTA-P (e.g. 3.72 confirmed with standalone version).

* Translated:
1. Open the ISTA-P installation folder and locate the “application.xml” file and
open it with the editor.

2. Change the value “distributionVersion="xx.x.xxx" to the value “distributionVersion=“3.xx.x.xxx“
So just expand the beginning of the version with 3.
Don't enter xx.x.xxx there!! Only at the beginning 3. Register(save file)!!
!!Everything else stays as it is!!

But it would be reassuring to have a more recent version Loader with the support as I'm not sure how reliable the 6.1 would be with more recent versions of ISTA-P.

Cheers...

Are you sure you want to flash/code a hu or a DME/DDE with kdcan via ISTA P?
Get an icom to avoid an interrupted process

proper DCAN cable works perfectly fine for flashing for most of the units, except those on MOST.

For me, this is for personal use, and I don't have an urgent need for it (not in need of flash programming) at the moment. But I want to stay aware of the technical requirements, features, issues etc. for when I might need to use it immediately.

I will eventually get a genuine ICOM from a local BMW Service Center(for a very reasonable price, 4~6 week to delivery) if I absolutely need to do say an overall I-Level update or some other long process that would be step/sequential order sensitive including follow up coding etc. (that would be tedious to do manually with WinKFP, NCS, Tool32).

In the meantime, it would be nice to use a K+DCAN cable to test the latest versions of ISTA-P from time to time -  connection with ECUs, simple non-programming features, to stay up to date with the latest features & issues of the software & interfaces.

BTW, I appreciate/respect your advising folks to get an ICOM... Thanks again for sharing ...
