The Symptoms
1. Change from P to D very noticeable. Almost as if car has extra horse powers at idle. Back tends to lift slightly.
2. At gears 4 or 5 revs increase as speed falls gradually or rises very slowly. Impossible to get over 120kph in any gear above 3
3. Gear changes were initially delayed somewhat but now better after replacement Torque Converter (TC)

Tests carried out
1. Drove car with ISTA connected. Gear changes seem ok, TC locks ok at gear 4, unlocks on kickdown. Kick down switch ok, gear selector switch selects ok

Remedial work already done
1. TC replaced with used unit, same problem, improved gear shifts according to owner, no more delays
2. Gearbox serviced in the process, new filter.

Any ideas what could be happening? Can it be possible the replacement TC is faulty? Can it be the oil pump? Clutches for gear 4 and 5?

No transfailsafe at all, no other error codes. I cant seem to figure what else can cause this problem apart from TC and I don't want to offer a solution that wont resolve. Getting a reliably good state gearbox for this car is not possible so solution must be a rebuild but want to at least know what could be the problem before I advise a rebuild. Experts in the house, help!

Engine destroyed after oil pump failure. Replacement engine and gearbox being sought. Will open up this gearbox just to teach myself how it is done!
