CarProg A1 Cable modification
Hi
I need some technical advice on a thread about the insides of a A1 cable. I bought 10.93 and it arrived today, however I get a communication with CAN problem. I looked inside the cable after looking at a few issues online and a few people seem to recommend checking the resistors and capacitors inside. I had a look at I THINK that there are 2 round the wrong way. I think R1 and C2 are the wrong way round? many thanks for any help Chris |

RE: CarProg A1 Cable modification
Correct switch them and everything should be ok you can tell they are wrong because of the components placement markings
If mine or others posts and info are helpful please give thanks/rep

RE: CarProg A1 Cable modification
Swapped them over and still get the "Could not receive CAN KWP Frame".
I made a A9 cable up and everything tested ok My only other option is to put a wire from pin 16 to thenleg of the mosfet/voltage regulator. Also, does the device have to be externally powered to do any eeprom work? I was trying with the box only powered by USB Thanks |

RE: CarProg A1 Cable modification
Extra wire to PIn 16 seemed to solve it, as well as external voltage supply.
However, The cable sometimes fails to connect to the ECU for my Astra H Z19DTH. Sometimes it throws the CAN error, sometimes it doesnt find the ECU and sometimes it starts to read until 18% and crashes out. |

RE: CarProg A1 Cable modification
I used the diagram that lists every component inc the 2 chips and replaced them all minus the mosfet, mine is a v8.21 and already had the wire from pin 16.
I also replaced the 4 chips and a few other component on the main unit using the diagrams floating around, I tried on a astra h z14xep and was able to retrieve the pin code and correct ecu mileage fine. cost me around £20+ pound from farnell with many left overs but worth it imo. That was without external power as well. |

RE: CarProg A1 Cable modification
They just a pain to solder though. so small components and doing a chip would be hard.
It still tests ok with the A9 adapter |

RE: CarProg A1 Cable modification
I used hot air but yeah with just a iron it would be awkward for the chips you would need quickchip or similar.
