RE: 2018 BMW Bricked?
Programming was 100% completed guys no errors the units all showed the green tick next to programming meaning completed and successful, The Blue status bar was 100%,

volts were stable and never dropped ISTA + is from Spyder on here his torrent, I have used it before on F10 F20 and F30 no problems at all,

This is first time we use 4.14.14 ISTA, No problem I can't scan the car anymore with any tool,

OBDll is dead OBD port is not working, 0 volts Delphi not working K+DCAN E-NET cable ICOM car no longer can be scanned.

Something has seriously gone wrong or BMW have a protection in place on new 2017-18 cars to stop programming with pirated software.

I did my reading and the torrent I have downloaded has great rep, Same as always I used his ISTA-P for years with zero problems, I even used I think it was 4.11.12 ISTA + to program a few F series all perfect yes

Tested the Online portal and the car can't be found it's telling me to call BMW directly, looks like the car is going to BMW on Monday I have never seen this before the programming and encoding was 100% successful but now I'm stuck dead.

I am now VERY scared to carry on using this for anything but diagnostics and diagrams with other people also saying they are having cars bricked.

Yes I have thanks 15mins 30mins 2 hours and then around 15 hours off,

Comes back on with nothing all dead just indicators flashing now alarm goes off if you go into car.

Yeah I should be using E-SYS I have the pro version but have never carried out any updates using it.

How hard is it to get started with programming/updating on E-SYS?

Thanks.

RE: 2018 BMW Bricked?
I had similar issue few years back with a F07
Nothing at all worked, like you, ESYS, ISTA, OBD, nothing. No ignition etc
Then mechanic pulled out the Autologic computer, connected ok and there was some unlock function I could not tell you which one, but he was able to half awake the car with it, which allowed me to connect again with E-SYS and then I was able to unlock flash mode and got me going.

It was locked somehow, deeper than flash mode where all ECU are offline, and lucky me we had this Autologic computer around...

Don't ask me what was the name of the function, I could not tell you, but it was accessible almost right away, not too much digging into the menus

I hope this helps

RE: 2018 BMW Bricked?
Where did you read about bmw protection? The software you can download here is the same exact software as bmw uses itself. Which you can also use offline. So i do not know what you did wrong. Do you have an end protocoll after you programmed it?

Give me the last 7 positions of your vinnumber.... I will take a look..

RE: 2018 BMW Bricked?
Do not send your VIN OP to anyone in there!
Irrelevant to your issue anyway, it was not performed through BMW dealer or AOS

You can be sure car will have warranty thrown to your face

RE: 2018 BMW Bricked?
Need to remove transport mode in FEM/CAS.

I wouldnt bring car at this status to BMW,because all ECU's have programming counter, date,SVK etc etc.

BMW will know the update was performed in service(under warranty) or some 3rd party performed SW update.

Sima

RE: 2018 BMW Bricked?
Update!

I won't be giving the VIN at all due to the car being under warranty,

The car left with BMW today,

I had a call around 7 hours later telling me that FEM and CAS is dead, They are also suspecting that the OBD port itself is deemed to be faulty as they have a problem with an identical BMW car that came in for a recall now all systems dead,

1 hour 35mins after that I get another call and BMW then offer me a courtesy car while they search for the fault along with this phone call they sent me an email with a video showing me the suspected OBD socket with a new OBD socket now connected and the car alive again and asking me to confirm any work needed to be carried out.

They have told me they will need the car for at least 2 days and it being weekend I got the hire car today and expect them to return car on Tuesday/Wed next week,

Lets hope they don't find anything bout pirated software or software manipulation

Keep you lads updated I am scared out my mind right now this car is not cheap and I would hate to have to buy it from my costumer...

Thanks for reply's

RE: 2018 BMW Bricked?
I thought "component protection" only referred to certain ECUs being linked so on exchange they would have to be relinked online (per ISTA release notes). This here sounds rather like something shorted out, though the ISTA error is interesting and if it's bricking cars that's just ouch. Anyway, let us know, I'm personally curious by this thriller (though I doubt you're having much fun).

5 Door Hatchback

via ISTA +

Programming via 4.14.14 ISTA + Programming was VERY good 100% stable volts held nice got a BMW and merc rated maintainer for coding cost around £700,

ICOM Original costing £1400, Updated firmware from BMW Portal DHCP set to the ICOM and Rooter checked working perfect, All green ticks on ISTA + programming and encoding went perfect Kombi and NBT all good (normally the ones that give trouble if no DHCP Set)

Car is now going mad indicators flashing alarm going off key doesn't lock or unlock car, Doors will not open drivers door is locked on the hatch for coding as always on F-G-I cars, Steering is locked on CAS seems dead, No crank nothing.

Major problem is the car will no longer talk via OBD E-NET or ZGW,

I got worried and fired up ISTA + again and now it's saying this,

.I don't know what's going on but the car is dead nothing is working now

I have warranty still will they know I used "fake Software" by fake I mean not resisted to them with it being a 2018 car I'm worried. And now thinking to get it recovered to BMW and saying it just died on me? and let them fix it,

Unless anyone has a fix for me it seems all units are now dead or stuck in abort mode or bootloader nothing works inside car or outside tired battery off for 15mins 1 hour and then a day nothing changes this  tears

Question is am I now screwed can't even connect to the car via E-SYS to try reset this is a nightmare for me...

Sounds like two possibilities here. FEM Body full crash or OBDII fuse has blown and car remains in programming mode. My guess is full FEM Body crash. What is the production date on this vehicle? Is before 07/18 or after?

201101 Code shows if you updated a DME that was tuned and you did not update the bootloader (BTLD.)

It can not be stressed enough by many people. DO NOT UPDATE A VEHICLE THAT IS STILL IN WARRANTY.

Everyone is so anxious to share information and be the next smartest guy on the forums there is no reason for the factory to in force any kind programming protection. Before factory never checked “Flash Counters” now because of so many people who made it a big deal the first thing that is checked if the factory has concerns is flash counters.
