XZBMW  Can this be done without FSC repair kit?!?
Last night I posted what is quoted below to the FSTOOL thread. To summarize, I'm trying to resurrect CIC Navigation on a car that has Professional Nav from the factory (the original CIC died...). All is working on the replacement CIC, but not Nav. I meanwhile copied the data03 file from the original CIC back to the replacement CIC and deleted the generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController file. Following a reboot a new generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController file is then created which contains my VIN in 3 places (not 4, as I expected, that offset contains '1234567' instead  sad ). So I'm getting close, but something is still missing. FSC most likely?

I suppose that my main question is: Can I somehow get this restored if I only have access to the Hard Drive of the original CIC, but not its Flash storage? Or is a FSC repair kit the only way? (If someone is willing to retrieve that from the BMW ASAP system for me that would be much appreciated!  yes  VIN: A191372, a US-spec 2010 E91.)

I'm assuming that the Flash 'drive' is soldered on, or I can I extract that from the somehow? Couldn't immediately ID it during partial disassembly...

Thank you!
Jacco

My first post here ( hi )...
I have a similar question: I managed to extract the data01, data02 and data03 files from my old, dead, CIC (factory installed). Only data03 seems to be vehicle specific. Can I load this back onto my replacement CIC somehow using ftp/telnet? Do I have to to convert this to fcert.swt (etc) first? Or is this a lost case? The CIC is already coded with the correct vehicle VIN.

Thanks,
Jacco

if you have access to the data files 01,02,03, and to the generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController file, copy them to the new CIC, changing the VIN before the operation,

after the restart CIC works with FSC of your old CIC.
the sw of the two cics must be similar.

This might be the problem. The replacement CIC is about a year newer (11/2010) and is running C1A I think. I'm not sure what the original one was at. (It was 11/2009 build, unchanged since it left the factory.)

I have the three data01,02,03 files (01 and 02 are identical on the replacement CIC), but not generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController, that's not available from HDD AFAIK? Something in CIC recreates the generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController at boot time, I haven't figured out what yet, does anyone know?

Cheers,
Jacco

It turns out that there's a whole block of data missing (  tears  ) from the generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController that was auto-generated after the data03 from the original CIC was put in place. This is around byte 0x1860. And as I mentioned, one small section further down is padded with some placeholder (1234567, etc.) instead of something real that contains the VIN. Screen shots of both sections are below, comparing my current file on the left and the original one from the donor CIC on the right.

Any help much appreciated!
Jacco
