Hello friends  ! I am working on e88 118i which was out of power for a year now..when all done everithing on place, new battery installed, I notice there is no comunication with dme(msd81)..I checked fuses,ibs,change and program new junction box no isue faund  so finaly I checked wires around ecu and find out ecu not geting ground..so I ground it and I get comunication back.I program/encode ecu all go fine but engine steel dont start..It only cranks, without any dtc present I check there is no spark at all..what do you think guys I am out of ideas...

thanks mate I alredy try disconecting crank sensor, dtc shows up right away..I checked live data while crank it counts normaly

Did you try reset cas-dme synchronization? Sometimes the start value is out of sync after dead battery.

there was no ews tampering error dtc..I program encode all ecus also reset was done,I steel look for solution

In that case I would check if fuel pump is running, if not it still could be EWS issue. If fuel pump is running check power and ground of ignition coils, and other sensors to make sure they all have power and ground. When that's all normal I would check signal for ignition coils and injectors with a scope.

What is engine code we are talking about?

Dont unplug crankshaft sensor, check for engine speed with your diagnostic tester while cranking. Sometimes faulty crankshaft sensor dont write nothing, just dont send rpm to ecu

Under start point, is ground point for DME.
I have seen many times, that people connect DME ground to battery plus(near start point)

So why exactly was DME not getting ground? Broken contact or connector? If you have no ignition and you have reset EWS start value (if applicable) and there is no DTC then get a new DME

And I hope you are using a BMW scanner like ISTA. I have seen cases where diagnostic readers miss some dtcs.

Had one E60 without EWS codes in CAS or DME last week. Did EWS sync and car started. Worth a try.
