Firmwares for Volkswagen, Audi (flashdaten) from 07/02/2019. Official software updates for car control units. Flash Drives for ODIS and VCP.

Before flashing it is strongly recommended to check with TPI.

Hello.

There are Technical Product Information (TPI) on specific vehicles and / or ECUs. Before flashing, you should check if the flashfile is intended for the vehicle. You can find the technical product information in part at ElsaWin, or at erwin.vw.com or erwin.audi.com. But here you have to register, and you only get the information for money.

Transmission I had no problem flashing with newest. E.g from 10 to 11
Same for gateway. e.g. from 120 to 121 (but with newer engiens it is a problem need to read TPI).

1. For ECU I suggest that you definetely look at the TPI. e.g. Oil Consumption Stage 1. My engine firmware name totally changed. Nothing to do with the previous name. This one I know because I had stage 1 of oil consumption at the dealer. Firmware updated with SVM.
2. Same for comfort unit. To flash you need to read the TPI. It mentions that you need to turn on the hazzard lights or your firmware flash can fail (comfort unit enters the sleep mode). Also prefacelift and facelift have a different firmware support but still the name is the same. Only firmware numbering changes. Also differences with older comfort units with keyless entry and non keyless entry support. Non Keyless entry CU, support lower firmware numbering. So might be better to either read TPI or visit the dealer.

So yes TPIs are important on several occasions. Nevertheless I have taken risks in flashing firmware which I did not have TPI information. E.g. HVAC, Instrument Cluster (though I searched ebay for latest firmware of my Car generation supported) even if hardware name was different (e.g. Parking Control module) it was successful.
Also reading German forums helped though they dont say something directly it can be inferred if you have some experience in understanding their hints.

Also remember that stopping the firmware update can lead to bricking control modules, though this is not absolute. I had to stop the frmware upgrade of radio concert in the middle because I had an emergency, needed almost 3 hours for the firmware update to complete. Removing the fuse of the radio for 10 seconds, the radio came out of flashing mode and I could flash again. Otherwise it would drain your battery. I though hardware would be bricked but I was lucky.

Always use labtop/tablet on power.
Always have your car pluged in to a stable voltage charger.
Bearing in mind the above precautions good luck with your firmware updates.
