XZBMW  DCAN or ENET for Motorrad?
Is anyone able to state definitively whether BMW motorcycles should work with DCAN or ENET cables? I have searched, but there are different answers in different places. Does it depend on the build year? Do different cables work with different versions?

Thanks in advance!

RE: DCAN or ENET for Motorrad?
ENET works for 2017 onwards with the newer OBD plug. ENET cables don't work on the 10 pin bikes I have found. Need ICOM and ICOM D cable.

Perfect; that's exactly what I needed to know. I've found that the DCAN cable from my E9X BMW's works for diagnostics, but I guess I'll have to pick up an ICOM for programming/coding.

The concepts are mixed here!

From 2016/09 is the OBDII/EOBD connector but not the ENET!!!
ENET is only an interface connetion in OBD plug, but this exist only when TFT monitor has in bike!
All bmw bike with OBD connector has D-CAN interface.
Old 10 pin plug has D-CANand K-line, depend on BN2020 or BN2000 eletrical sistem!

With D-CAN interface can you use for diagnostic, but for programming/coding use ICOM-A/A2 or ICM NEXT A.
Only if the bike has 10 pin diagnostic connector you need plus ICOM-D or ICOM NEXT-D interface for coding/programming!

So, on a K54 R1200rs 07/2017, I can use ENET with ISTA? For diagnostics / adaptations. Not for coding.

It depends on the faciliti, but as I wrote before, if it has a TFT instument then you can check th OBD plug!
For ethernet connectionmust be check in the obd plug that the pin: 3, 11, 12, 13, and the 8 must contain a contact!
Then the nex task is to get the bike to communicate not via D-CAN but via ETHERNET!

Do you have any steps that I can follow in order to get ISTA to recognize my k54 using a K+DCAN cable?
I only want diagnostic / activations. No programming, for that i know i need an ICOM.

Plugged the cable to both pc and k54, went into Device manager and set 1ms latency and COM 5.
Then went into EDIABAS.ini and set
- Interface to - STD:OBD;
- TCP Port 6801 and in OBD.ini COM5 port was also set.

Ignition on, cable connected.

With all this, I went on ISTA, set for "BMW Motorrad", connection is Ediabas config. Restart ISTA

And all I get on the connection list is an "EDIABAS” interface with "free" status. No Vin or voltage shown.

I try to connect, ISTA says it cannot retrieve VIN and asks to fill it.
Once I introduce the VIN: only KOMBI and DME are "present" and 2 faults set for no communication with both modules - check attachment:

I used k+dcan utility 2.0 to set “500kbit/s DCAN AND PT-can” it says “done” and led on interface shuts off like it’s supposed to.

Tried COM9, no success.

What am I missing? 07/2017 K54- No TFT display+ OBD Port
