Hello,


I was trying to update an E46 320d M47 136hp DDE 3.0.

The car still has the old round 20 PIN connector. So i am using a 20 pin to OBD adapter and Bimmergeeks Pro K+DCAN Cable (the one which has the 3-ways switch).

I could read errors, clear them, log engine parameters, read the car with ISTA etc, so the cable was working correctly.
Then, I tried to update the ECU using WinKFP and I got the error ' Datatransmission to ECU disturbed IFH-0010 '.
From that moment, the car is not starting anymore, and the ecu is only partially responding.
I can still communcate with the ecu.

How can i flash it in order to recover it?

You need ICOM, OPS or "Yellow head" to do this

Just use icom, and you will be able to recover the module

One more self inflicted pain. These old units usually need "programing voltage" applied to a special pin in the connector. K+DCAN cables DO NOT HAVE THAT SUPPORT. So it fails. Why people were and still are trying to flash cars with 20 pin round connectors using these cables just beats me.

This information is very useful, but was not reported anywhere i could find it before flashing. I have a stabilized voltage supplier, can I apply the required voltage to the specified pin?

just use icom to recover it or flash with a cheap tool like kess/ktag or mpps

I remember reading 1 (exactly 1) post where some user said that he connected that pin to terminal 30 (or maybe it was 15) and then flash succeeded. I don't remember if that was DDE3 or some other unit so DO THAT ON YOUR OWN RISK IF YOU WISH. I don't even know what the voltage on that pin has to be and whether it is dependent on the unit being flashed. By the time I got interested into workings of BMW cars 20 pin socket was already a history even on middle aged used cars, so I have no knowledge how exactly that pin is supposed to be used. I just know there was one and it was needed for old units.

My advise: use ICOM or any other BMW diagnostic "head" (like OPS, OPPS, DK) which manage that pin automatically.

Ok, do i need ICOM C or I can use ICOM A + 20pin-to-OBD adapter as well?

Depends whether your adapter has all wires needed.
