Check for recall, but problem is EGR cooler bypass. You will find it on exhaust manifold side, the vacuum part. Can be faulty vacuum hose but most likely the valve is stuck. Be carefully this is the reason why the intake manifold can get burned/melted.

It’s nothing else than a valve that controls EGR flow. Cold engine it will bypass the EGR cooler so that the hot gases are not cooled so engine heats up quicker. When engine is hot it should cool the EGR gasses.

Problem could also be related to EGR cooler internal coolant leakage. This will cause “sludge” in cooler and there can’t get anough gasses true it.

Oh and last but not least, solution is to replace EGR cooler with vacuum hoses and actuator. But I would check first if the car has a recall open at the dealer.

I still would check if the bypass valve moves by hand. There are some part numbers that must be changed anyway according to the recall. Also if you believe that that isn’t the issue I would suggest to check EGR temp data if it’s plausible. And smoke all vacuum hoses. Those small animals with sharp teeth like themwink

Is it wise to remove swirl flaps.

Which part numbers must be changed?

Swirl flaps and this are not related at all.




Later F chassis N47 swirl flaps have been reliable for me and what I gather.
