Change VIN of a RDC unit - BMW motorcycle
Hi all,

I have a BMW R nine T which I have been able to modify with BU and ISTA+ (4.39.20) to have things that an R nine T is not supposed to have like BMW LED nano fog lights and RDC tire pressure monitoring. I used BU to activate the SALAPA options and ISTA+ to update the software of the bike to updated I-Level.

I'm trying to program it to use a multicontroller (aka Wonder Wheel) but I haven't managed that yet, that will be another thread I will create.

The subject of this thread is the used RDC unit I got from ebay, which is working and I'm able to program sensors using my GS911. However, ISTA+ does not like it since it has another VIN and wants me to remove it everytime I connect the bike to it. In actual fact, ISTA+ did not inform me about this, it was GS911 that told me so and even told me what is the VIN of the donor bike.

So, considering the tools I have, all working and configured:

- ICOM A clone, updated to the latest firmware and working fine
- ISTA+ 4.39.20 + psdzdata 4.46.31
- BU - legitimate!
- Esys Launcher Pro 2.8.1

How can I change the VIN on the little RDC ECU? Any help or pointers on how to do it is much appreciated!

And how do I do that, replacing the old VIN with the new VIN? Or does it automatically do so given it is installed on that bike?

Thanks a lot but for some reason (I'm no Esys expert at all) the only option I get is never that of flashing the RDC module, it's to do a hwDeinstall of the RDC, which is what ISTA also tells me I need to do but I don't want to.

I never have the option for flashing it. I have successfully coded it (changed thresholds of pressure warnings) in the NCD but no joy in flashing it.

Any idea as to why this is the case?

@jaramillo, any help on this, i.e, how to force flash the RDC unit given it has the latest software already?

Easy:
The version number in SVT ist must be overwritten to 0!

e.x.: SWFL_00000CB2_001_000_070  to   SWFL_00000CB2_000_000_000

Then, if you calculate with this svt.ist  again, you can choose to flash it!

Ah! I will try that tonight.

Hi again,

Oddly enough this did not work. I changed all entries related to the RDC in the SVT_ist file I created and then loaded it to Esys. I calculated the SVT_soll file using the changed SVT_ist and then calculated the TAL file. Nothing changed... Nothing is available for update for the RDC and the only option is to remove it.

Opening the soll file, all ECUs have entries EXCEPT the RDC. Esys removes it from the soll file, which I created using the shipment I-Step against the most recent available in the psdzdata v4.46.31.

Now, could this be happening because this bike never came from the factory with an RDC installed? It does work, I have coded sensors to it using a GS911 and I have the RDC visible in the LCD, after coding the SALAPA code to the FA.

Do I need to change the bike to a GS1250 (for example, those came with RDC) to trick Esys to flash the RDC?

Or should I edit manually the soll file to add an RDC entry?

It's not allowed to get out of my mind!!!!

Only this: SWFL_00000CB2_001_000_070 to SWFL_00000CB2_000_000_000
