I bought that adaptor from ebay as you said,to bridge pin 7 and 8.
It will come next week.

Install Ediabas from your download. ODB.ini is in there.
Open K+DCAN cable and solder 7+8 together (then you do not need the adapter)

Open K+DCAN cable and solder 7+8 together (then you do not need the adapter)

For full scan - 100% need adapter with 17 and 20 pin soldered.
For engine 16pin OBD under dash is enough.
BTW is better to use DIS V57 for E46.
