Bought a new EWS from dealer, old one was faulty.
Tried to code with ISTA-P and NCS but no luck - got the "CoAPI 1080 - Encoding code incorrect" fault. I've bought numerous times before new EWS and never encountered this fault before. Any hints?

are your NCS file is the last version? EWS.C81 is exist?
What you can buy is not EWS4?

Wit NCS you must vrite:
- VIN
- SA
- VN
- GM
-then cod it!

NCS is last version, EWS.C81 is there.
I didn't understand the EWS4 question.
I know the procedure, I've done it million times before.

This error (CoAPI 1080) is looks like the ews is not for this e39 systems.
In e39 has only ews 3.2 and 3.3 from factosry, but if you today by a new ews from dealer then you received a ews4 according you can code to ews 3.3 (like downgrade)
The error looks like that you can't setup (code) to the right ews version for this e39.

The EWS is suitable for E39, I've ordered the same part number for different E39's too. I think the problem is elsewhere.

• Install new EWS module
  
• Store VIN and ZCS in EWS module (get both from instrument cluster)
  
• Use standard coding for EWS module

I've done this already a thousand times - always the same outcome.

you can use INPA?
Then connect in to the car and read it with INPA.
somewhere must be see the status if its EWS2, 3.3, 3.3, 4.3 or 4.4
Check it!

Good idea, but might easier to realize with Tool32 (EWS3.PRG, Job "status_ews").
