Not Sure What Hardware To Buy ??
Hi guys
I've been wanting to play with ecu tuning for a while but i gave up when i couldn't find a suitable programmer or any information. Since then there seems to be a lot more choices out there. From a lot of reading i narrowed it down it down to either buying a K-Tag, KESS or FGTech. FGTech seems to be the best all round device as it can work using OBD2, BOOT and BDM. But can someone please tell me if FGTECH is actualy as good as KTAG ? Also something i cant seem to find any information about....... If i had a faulty ECU (maybe blown circuit or water damage) and wanted to clone the chip from the faulty one and write it to a new ecu, How would i do this with any of the above tools, as it seems none of them read directly off the chip and need power to go through the ecu? Thanks for any help given |

It helps know what you intend to work on, but generally Kess+KTAG is a good combination.
Original MPPS if you want to be boss. |

Things I would probably want to do is clone ecu's if one is faulty, delete dpf, egr...etc read and write remap files...etc So FGTech isn't any good? I just thought FGTech was kess + ktag all rolled in to one. Or is that not the case ? |

RE: Not Sure What Hardware To Buy ??
I will assume you are looking at clone tools.
Original FGTech is comparable, but clone hasn't been updated in a very long time, making Kess+KTAG better. But do realize each ecu generally has individual needs and one tool may not be able to do what you need. There is no tool that covers all. That is why I asked what your use was, as in specific brands or ecus. |

Thank you for the reply I was hoping it would be a case of reading the eeprom from the old ECU using one of the above tools and then just writing it to the new ECU. I don't have any ecu's that I need to work on at the moment so I don't have any makes or models just yet. I did need to clone an ECU from a iveco daily a while back and needed to delete the dpf from a 2014 for transit if that's any help. The only thing that's leaning me towards FGTech is that it can read from both obd2 and bdm. |

When was the last time the clone FGTech was updated?
Would it work with sid211 ecu's? |
