Just coding one ECU was possible since there is no messuring plan available because all ECU's are updated. As much i know some units can only be programmed in combination with other's this information can also be found in esys what ECU's has to be programmed together. But i don't know why ISTA can't just writhe the coding file to one unit. It could be because coding file changes with I-step upgrade, so if ISTA is on a newer version than current I-step and the coding file is changed it does not allow to just code one ECU's. But i probably missing something, please correct if someone knows better.

Just got my hands on ISTA+ manual and it clearly states that in "advance" tab you can add additional ECU's for programing on top action plan calcualted in "comfort" but deselecting is not possible.

Unless someone is willing to correct me I will trust BMW manual.
That's what i experienced as well, tried on some other cars today, it's just not possible. Perhaps there is a reason for it.

Could you please explain how "just" coding of one ECU can be done in ISTA4? I'd really appreciate that.
You just select check mark box next to control unit to code it.

If the vehicle needs programming on any control unit, those control units will be updated, but you can also add coding and programming on any control unit that does not need an update. That is normal operation since E65+.

If you need to code just 1 control unit, you should not use ISTA+. Takes too long, you should just use Esys

RE: I-Level after coding
If a car is stock one you could just code all of units in ISTA. There is a button for that. And that is really fast. If a car is not stock you should not use ISTA on it for any coding/programming anyway.

RE: I-Level after coding
@bmchicago

This is exactly how I  operate, but when reading some of @Node posts I was under impression that I can select only one ECU in ISTA+ and simply update it. That got me thinking is there an "expert" mode for ISTA+ like we have for ISTA P.

E-series

a)ISTA P - in expert mode you can deselect/hide most of ECU's from plan. Exception for some older models without iLevel you have full control over programing and coding.
b) WinKFP - programing and encoding selected ECU based on zb#

F,G,I,U series

a)ISTA+ - programing all ECU's determined in plan. No ability to deselect modules, you can add additional ECU's for programing or coding
b)Esys - full control over selection of ECU's for encoding, coding and programing

That's clear for me. Was just under impression from your previous posts that there is a way to "modify TAL" in ISTA+ which is clearly not the case.

Cheers

RE: I-Level after coding
If:
1. car is at the latest iLevel ISTA+ can code a single unit.
2. car is not at the latest iLevel ISTA+ can code all units (I think, never tried that, but there is a button "code all units").

Don't really see a problem with coding all units. Avoids posting questions to the forum like "which units I need to code" smile
