Reflashed and now VCDS is recognize the cable, but I get an unkown firmware error message.
Update trough VCDS is not possible. I also get error message.

No, you can’t. It’s NEC chip, only Atmega can

Can someone detail how to identify hardware type? Not sure what to check for even following the guide

For example, on my PCB, there is no IC1 marking so not sure which corner to check and what to check for

It looks like a 0x44 hardware, pins 34 and 35 are probably connected to a GAL chip on a other side of PCB.
