RE: Good or Bad Vas5054A
I have an AMB2300 VAS5054a, which has worked fine for now, but noticed that the memory isn't the 10ns. I was thinking if it was possible to replace them with correct ones. Simple solder job and run firmware update?

RE: Good or Bad Vas5054A
I dont know. Thinking about it. on pC. a flash may include compatability with later ram. however i doubt in this case it would be the same as the original ram was UI10 and chinese are mixing a multitude of variations.

RE: Good or Bad Vas5054A
Hmm, I think I will order the correct ram, and maybe a genuine OKI chip (actually not necessary, only needed for Ford) to make mine as close to original as I can.
Still unsure if I can just replace the RAM without any other modifications? |

RE: Good or Bad Vas5054A
Soldering desoldering is not a good idea on a new product. It is not a car that we can add retrofits. We are talking about a board which is small in size and soldering/desoldering is dangerous. I could only replace Bluetooth module to amb2300 if it is easy, nothing less nothing more. I have done in the past desoldering of resistors from paddle shift boards of SSG technology (not SMG) in order to convert them to SMG using smd tweezers and I was trembling from stress.

If it fails.. (which i doubt greatly) then you'll have just to put it back o how it was., Oki is for SAE-J1850 = PWM so yes commonly ford thus sharan. Paste shields and air.. Or IR if you got the money.. |

I solder and desolder chips to ecus all the time. But those, I usually flash in a chip burner... I don't leave them empty when I put back. I don't have a TSOP44 adapter for these. |

Just did a bit more reading... It should have been obvious to me. These RAM are SRAM, which lose all their memory on power down. What I was used to is soldering flash memory, which I always flashed and soldered. This should be easy, I ordered 4 RAM chips of the 5V 10ns kind. Same model as on the original genuine VAS5054a. 2 extra just in case, and will upgrade mine soon. |
