RE: Which power supply for programming
Thats pretty impressive ! How much did it all cost ninja ? I see a few on ebay 2000w units about £30 thats really
cheap compared to some auto battery support units, the only downside i can see is you dont get the battery charger function, for some thats not a big deal. What a good idea mate high quality components - units. Well done.

Thanks buzzard!!
I grabbed 2 pieces for like $40~$45 from ebay and approx $20 for copper bars and terminals and switches.I am just an DIY'er and didn't want to spend lots of money and that's why i built it for myself.I tested it on my E70 X535D with all the accessories turned on (heated seats, headlights, fog lights, rear window defogger, fan at highest speed, stereo, all interior lights) and the max current it saw on my X5 was approx 110 amps and it maintained its voltage right at 14.0 volts with load and at no load. These power supplies are built to run 24x7@365 days.Voltage is adjustable from 12.2 volts to 14.4 v max with very nice voltage regulation.Voltage just remains constant doesn't matter you load it with 120 amps or .1 amp.

I tell you its such a good idea Ninja ! Can you post up the model number and some plans or drawings of the mods you did because this is without doubt going to help a lot of people get affordable quality support units congrats

This is the answer to many a tuners dreams, i know how good server psu are built.

This is crazy, it puts my dual DPS-600pb to shame, and are your cable like AWG2 or 4? Awesome work, if it's as cheap as you say maybe I'll do another one!

I already had welding cable and i believe its AWG 00( or 2/0).Benefit of using welding cable is that you won't get any voltage drop between power supply and the car when car is consuming 100 amps.I know its little overkill but i preferred it.

You will have to watch for Dell JD200's on the ebay.Sometimes they are listed dirt cheap.

I used AWG6 for 4 ft, and the voltage drop was negligible. But I think the DSP-600PB doesn't regulate voltage so well at 13.5-13.7 (as we steal the sense pins to raise the output voltage), but it seems yours is "built tough". I am gonna look into it.

In my car series (F8x), the consumption is way lower than yours, I did a similar test as yours but I didn't think of the heated seats biggrin ignition on, low beams, interior lights, rear fog light, radio, full fan consumed around 23A. But in any case all accessories are OFF during flashing! Very nice work.

When switching on and off the ignition Aboulfad, I have seen (using kessv2 for example) some range rovers mercs and bmw pull 120 amps at 12v out of the battery so I agree with you.

RE: Which power supply for programming
@Buzzard, I guess newer BMWs may probably consume less? Btw, my car series has special batteries. They are LiFePO4 (Lithium iron phosphate) rated only at 69Ah but pack a mean punch.

It's is capable of load sharing up to ~80A@(13-13.7V max which is good for F8x series) in parallel Config. It doesn't look fancy but it does the job and it was fun to mod it.

Yours look nice too!!thumbsup
