Hi all,

I have an NBT Evo with DAB installed in my E46. I have always had problems with DAB signal dropping whilst on the move. I have scoured the web searching for antennas, tried the stick on film one and the Ampire ANT600 stick one (added 5V phantom power adapter) on the front windscreen. I currently have a loft DAB aerial installed in my rear bumper horizontally (I know, not ideal due to polarisation) - this gives me the best reception when stationary, but I suffer constant drop-outs when moving.

I have today added a DAB Amplifier, but this actually attenuates the signal when power is added. I'm aware most only do this retrofit on E60/E90 upwards where OEM glass diversity antennas are an option. Does anyone know of a combination that may work here? Would buying a diversity amplifier, wiring the core of the co-ax from the DAB antenna to window connector, adding power and connecting the fakra cable work? If so, does anyone have a pinout of the window connector?

Thanks for the suggestion, I'd looked into the E93 as they had bumper antennas, but they seem very difficult to get hold of. I hadn't considered the F33.

The bezel was made for me by Mick at Germaniks and was one of the few things that worked correctly. It's a generic double DIN fascia for the E46 with a cut-up bezel from the CID glued to it, and then filler used to even it out and painted black. I considered somehow 3D scanning both parts unmodified, and then creating a file that could be 3D printed, but I have a lot on at the moment.

The changeover takes place with the help of direct current voltage. This is delivered by the headunit and is evaluated in the aerial diversity.

Direct current voltage = 0 V: AM aerial or FM aerial selected
Direct current voltage = 2.5 V: Diversity function enabled
Direct current voltage = 5 V: Diagnostic mode enabled

In diagnostics mode, 8 V pulses are used to change over to the next aerial.

A number of signals are simultaneously connected on the coaxial line. Reciprocal interference is not possible due to the difference frequencies. Among others, the following signals can be applied simultaneously:

HF signal (e.g. 88‐108 MHz) from aerial diversity to the headunit
Direct current voltage from headunit to aerial diversity
Intermediate frequency (HF=10.7 MHz) from headunit to aerial diversity as a basis for evaluating the quality of the HF signal.
Phase aerial diversity

Up to 2 aerials are in operation for the phase diversity.

There were also TV antenna in E46 cab bumper when you have TV function.

E46 TV retrofit kit included those bumper antennas.

I’ll research the options given. Have struggled to find a used F33 DAB antenna as well, but that looks like it could be the best bet. @dumitro.o, I also found this info from newtis website. I have read it multiple times to try and understand - I assume this is in relation to AM/FM only judging by the HF Signal frequency range stated. However, looking at system diagrams for the F33 shows only a signal line connected to the DAB amp and antenna, so must hold true for this also.

The E46 tv antenna is a good possibility as I believe they work on pretty much the same frequencies. I’ve ordered an external glass mount antenna for DAB to test as well.
