Turbo replacement E71
Hi everyone,
I would like to replace the large LP turbo on a E71 xDrive 40d and it will be my first big job as a mechanic, so I bought myself some new tools but I would really appreciate some help and guidance I read in NewTIS that I schould remove the upper turbo, then the exhaust, DPF and lower the front axle before I can remove the LP turbo. Is this all really necessary? Has anyone done this in an easier way? With this car, will I be able to separate the exhaust from the DPF without applying heat with an oxyacetylene torch? Is it best to remove the LP turbo together with the exhaust manifold as 1 unit, and thereafter separate the two out of the car? I would appreciate if anyone can give me some advise before I tackle this big job. Thanks in advance |

RE: Turbo replacement E71
Hi, you have to lower the front axle support. You cant remove DPF. And you will need more place to work on exhaust manifold. And you cant unscrew turbo from manifold until you remove the manifold from cylinder head. Maybe you will need more tolls than expect. If you have missing tools lowering front support and fixing engine is very hard work

RE: Turbo replacement E71
Thank you for your reply.
Does anyone perhaps know whether the exhaust can be separated from the DPF without applying heat? Many thanks |
