Power ICOM externally
Hi everyone,
I have never updated the firmware on my ICOM before, i would like to do this but without having to plug it into the car for power. Reading online, PIN 16 is 12v positive, PINS 4 and 5 are negative. I connected my bench power supply to these pins with 12v 2amps but the ICOM did not power up. Does anyone know if 1) these are the only pins necessary to power on the ICOM? 2) do I need to supply more current? I have no real issue with connecting my ICOM to the car but was curious about doing this on my bench rather than in the car, now that i havent been able to power it. its intrigued me and i need to figure out why. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Bunty |

I used this diagram to identify the pins, defiantly had PIN 4 and PIN 16 am i correct in assuming that, if i put 12v on 16 and ground on 4 it should power the ICOM up? RE: Power ICOM externally
If pin 16 does not work, try adding 12V to pin1! This is the ignition KL15 pin.
If this works, look for the error in the ICOM inside, maybe the power input fuse blown! The ICOM is NEXT or A/A2 or A3? Vojnó

I have attached the icom images, not sure which one this is, i am not familiar with these devices/ i only bought this to mess around with my car. Dont know much about cars or icoms. I n#tried to provide power to pin 1 but still not power on the icom. |

RE: Power ICOM externally
This is an ICOM A2.
Are you sure it still works when you plug it into a car? Vojnó

Loolks like the OBD2 plug jumps over some of the pincs, cant find any data online to confirm this. Someone must have been able to power these devices via a bench power supply. Thanks for all your help. |
