By the way all BMW before 1995/01 has no EWS and the identification come from there.
Although the VIN is in Kombi as well.

So for e36 isthe best and quick diag is the inpa and can you use it with ICOM A+C.

Based on release notes for 4.35 it says that old E36s now work again. So there may have been a problem in your version!

I assume the reason for the request for complete VIN number is because no EWS, the rest of the identification is probably enumeration of the ECUs.

I hoped that somebody else is using ICOM Next C and will share one's experience.

The reason I bought it is because ADS needs real serial port, and if/when my laptop with real serial is broken I'll have no way to diagnose it.

I have been using ICOM Next A (real) + ICOM C (chinesium) but lately I just don't get any cars that old to need it. It worked without any issues with ISTA with all kinds of old cars. So it could really be a problem in ISTA.

For these cars, I run a GT1 yellowhead + virtualization of DIS in VMware, X11 forwarding to X-Win32 to make it run at 1080p, runs beautiful and much faster than the real GT1 tablet (which I also have).

Seems like the best setup for me.
