I changed all the 3 components 6 times ( 6 X TJA1050/MCP2515/16.000)
After all of this I gived up and I bought a new tool

You changed those components 6 times and gave up !!

I don't have confidence that replacing the 16Mhz crystal will fix it.
I think I'll cut my losses and give up now.

It's a shame because this tool is a good design: Ft232BL, no security chip, eeprom & flash upgradeable and well made.

I'll look for another similar tool.
I am not a mechanic and only used the tool in our own cars to check and tweak few features.

Yes I gave up but as I said I fix it after a while.
Leys say it was a frustration for me ( my ego didn't let me ) to not be able to fix it.
So in the end I fix it

Better is to buy a Ftdi RL one
Its more stable and FT232RL has less isdues as previos FT232BL
Its harder to broke it then a FT232BL

Think of this if you like:
1. Buy a good hardware from china ( the ine as for HQ clone that seller advertise it as EU HQ clone )
And ?hen flash it with the dumps from Fantomel's collection but you will have only vcds 11.11.5 version because in version 12.12.0 the Long Coding is not working
2. buy a HQ Clone upgradable and you will be able to upgrade the software directlly from ross-tech no need to wait modified softwares - 1/4 from a genuinet vcds price
3. Buy a genuine vcds

Regarding RL vs. BL, I read somewhere (cannot remember where) that BL is better because it does not require special/patched VCDS loaders. is that not important anymore ?

The dump that you are used from Mr. fantomel collection are for both kind of FTDI BL and RL
The VCDS 11.11.5 and 12.12.0 for tat dumps works with both FDTI BL and RL no need anything ekse
The loader of that tools is working with any king if tools
So don't worry about this.
And I supposed that there will not be any other dumps for free that will need only BL tools.
As you know if you are using cloned serials then this will be blacklisted if you do not protect it

That happend when you buy cheapest clone on market. Yes you can reprogram again to 12.12 version.

Hello, I'm new here so excuse my noobie questions. My experience until now is that I successfully upgraded my interface to 10.6.4. But when I tried to do upgrade to newer version (from fantomel's first post archive), I had a lot of problems, mostly I think because I don't know how to choose the corresponding files versions of installer, .ept, flash and eeprom...
I am back to 10.6.4 now and everything is fine, so nothing is physically damaged.
Could you please make some suggestions? My interface have BL FTDI and ATmega 162, no GAL or something else.
I tried these (as macNB posted above):
1. VCDSFT232BL.ept
2. flash_192.hex
3. vers-6-11.11.5-12.12.0_eeprom-512-RL.hex
with no luck ("unregistered" when trying to modify parameters, although everything was ok in ABOUT/TEST).
