Test of Canclip interface without car battery
Hi every one, I would like to do simple check of the Canclip interface at home without a car (battery) using some 12V DC source to apply to OBD ports 4 and 16.
Please tell me. Is it possible to use a such current source as in the photo? That is for example a Lighting Transformer DC 12V Power Supply Adapter 12A 150W for LED Strip Switch Driver Lamp. Please, Do some one has an experience with it? |

For a simple test ( to windows detect interface and drivers) you can use this power suply adapter without problems. |

RE: Test of Canclip interface without car battery
Sure, why not.
I use 12V/1A power supply from some home appliance (wireless router, or something similar..) as a source of 12V. P.S. but be sure to check the output voltage from this PSU without any load with a voltmeter, just to be sure and not prematurely damage your scan tool. |

RE: Test of Canclip interface without car battery
It depends on adapter's IC voltage regulators. I do not know how Canclip is built inside..
It can go as low as 7-8V, probably, for scan tool to come alive. Also, diagnostic tools should be designed to work with up to 15V output from OBD port - because these voltage levels can be achieved by car's alternator in some working conditions, and are considered normal. If you are planning to built a bench and connect various ECUs - then voltage output should be 12-14V for stable working conditions. |
