Your tools won't notice a thing, try it yourself:
ё_5у5 finds the ENET car in its normal discovery.
i5тд lists the customer's їсош as if it were on your bench.
INPA, ñc5-ёxpёят and Tool32 run on a normal ёdїдbд5 setup. It gets switched per session and restored afterwards.
J2534 apps see the customer's PassThru device as if it were installed locally.
So no VPN, no port forwarding and nothing to configure.

⭐ Your customer gets an app with your logo, your colors and your product name, running on your own domain. For them it looks like you built your own remote coding software.

Customer side

• One signed .exe, nothing to install, updates itself, 10 languages
  
• Regular customers: save them once. With their standing consent, new sessions are accepted automatically and the app waits quietly in autostart. You open a session and start coding, nobody has to touch anything on the other end.

Connection types

• K+DCAN: any cable, not only FTDI. The D-CAN switch is checked automatically. If it's in the wrong position, the customer gets a prompt in their app to flip it, you see it live and the check runs again by itself.

• J2534: Scanmatik 3, OpenPort 2, Autohex, CANtieCAR and many other
  

Live while you code

• Battery voltage and terminal status in real time on every connection type, ENET included, with a low voltage alarm
  
• You also see the customer's laptop: battery level, charger plugged in or not, Wi-Fi signal (or LAN). You get a warning at low levels, before a dying laptop or bad Wi-Fi kills the session halfway through coding.
  
• Switch ignition remotely on F-series and dїдgиo5тїc mode on G-series, right from the tool
  
• VIN is detected automatically, plus head unit type, software and nav map version (automatic CarPlay check)
  
• Mini session view: a small always-on-top card, so you can stay in ё_5у5 or i5тд without alt-tabbing
  
• Link quality indicator that shows whose line is the bottleneck, and standby protection on both ends
  

Customer contact built in

• End-to-end encrypted chat with photo and video sharing

You can flash with the tool, at your own risk.
If the connection drops for any reason the ECU can be damaged, so we don‘t advise that.
Connect also supports direct flashing of ethernet ECUs.

#1 or #2? Why can't this technical question be answered simply?

I think it’s #2, and are you trying to dodge the question with your answer? It’s an unnecessary hop that increases latency and also poses a risk to data privacy. With your solution, will we have to enter into a data processing agreement (DPA) under Article 28 of the DSGVO as soon as it goes live?

I live in Tyrol and am subject to European law regarding such commercial solutions where data may be processed and collected.
