This forum post has been very helpful. I bought the single PCB ICOM NEXT. It worked after updating the firmware that came with the harddrive. It only read 128mb of ram with serial 164306 and hardware # 1120134.

I checked/replaced all of the resistors and now can see 256mb of ram! My question is should I change the serial number and why would I want to do this? Would I need to wire the button and do the emergency USB restore afterwards even if my ICOM boots and works?

I still need to replace Y4. Mine says 33.333. Should I replace it with 33.000MHz? How essential is this part? The ICOM works but is very slow to do a vehicle test. It is 4 times slower than my KDCAN cable.

I've gone through all of the posts, especially the 16 page ICOM A2 repair and am confused about the quartz and the serial change/button wiring.

It is not necessary to change the serial number and make a button, but I recommend doing it.
Y4 must be replaced by 33000, it affects the operation of the entire ICOM and many service functions will not work without replacement, and most importantly, it will not program ecu.
You must be very careful about this task, because if you make a mistake, you risk completely destroying ICOM.

It is impossible to guess by the color of the LEDs. The fact that the LEDs are all red indicates that the mega16 has not started working.

Perhaps you messed up in the button circuit and then after 10 seconds of connection, the download should start

29GL064 it makes no sense to touch until you start the processor and it is reset by mega16 which does not start for you. Mega16 has its own firmware and it should start first
