B8 A4 2.0T Low Oil Pressure issue
Hello all,
Recently had an '09 A4 Quattro convertible towed in due to heavy smoking out the tail. Car has the 2.0T BWT engine with 103k miles (165k km). Turbo charge hose was *filled* with oil and I drained about 2-2.5 quarts from the pan (almost 5 quart system w/filter). Pulled the turbo off and found excessive play in the shaft. Bought a brand new K03 from Audi and swapped it out. Drained as much oil as was possible from the charge lines & intercooler. Started up and it smoked for a bit before clearing up. No unusal noises from the engine or turbo at idle. Took it for a test drive and all was going smooth until I gave it about 1/2 throttle to produce decent boost and then a loss of power/low oil pressure light on dash. Shut it off immediately and had it towed back in. No engine codes upon returning. Rechecked all my work. Started the car in the shop and there is an ungodly upper head rattle (like no oil is getting to the head) along with low oil pressure on dash. Pulling the oil fill cap causes the car to stall (there is moderate suction, definitely seen worse). Not sure where to go from here or what could have caused this or if it was a pre-existing condition. Car has never been in my shop before but appears to be well kept. VW/Audi are not my primary focus, but this seemed like a straight forward job. I've read that the rear chain tensioners fail and cause low oil pressure. Any thoughts or ideas on where to begin? |

Hi, did you damage the electrical wires or the oil sensor during installation?
If someone took the time to help you, the least you can do is take a few seconds and press two buttons! |

I'd start with checking the oil pump and then taking off the head. Keep us updated. Licensed car mechanic.
